The LASIK Procedure

The procedure itself begins with numbing eye drops placed in your eye to prevent discomfort during the procedure. You also have the option to receive medication to help you relax. Your eye is positioned under the laser while an instrument called a lid speculum is used to keep your eyelids open. The surgeon will create a corneal flap and use a laser guided computer to adjust the laser to your prescription. You will be instructed to look at a target light while the surgeon operates and observes the laser light sending pulses to your cornea. This laser light pulse painlessly reshapes the cornea giving you clearer vision. Patients report feeling some pressure on the eye but no pain. LASIK is performed on each eye separately with each procedure taking about five minutes.
